By the time we reach the end of this month we will be feeling the effects of 5 separate retrogrades. To say this is a month of turning and nurturing is really an understatement, but it also gives you the opportunity to initiate or continue striving for significant changes in your life. The old saying, ‘as above, so below’ holds true in the world of astrology, effecting our everyday lives here on Mother Earth.
What does it mean when a planet goes retrograde? According to EarthSky.org … “Sometimes the planets appear to change direction in the sky”, moving backwards. “This retrograde motion is entirely an illusion caused by the Earth passing the slower moving outer planets. Typically, the planets shift slightly eastward from night to night, drifting slowly against the backdrop of stars. From time to time, however, they change direction. For a few months, they’ll head west before turning back around and resuming their easterly course. This is “retrograde motion”. Though it baffled ancient astronomers, we know now that retrograde planets are an illusion caused by the motion of Earth.”
It is important to remember that when a planet is in retrograde, all motion is directed inward, toward your own inner activity (such as psychological or spiritual patterns) effecting your physical body or manifestation. So, let’s look at all these planetary shifts and moves, and how they may play in your life.
Jupiter … January 7 – May 9, 2016
Personal growth, inner awareness and spiritual development is the hallmark of a Jupiter retrograde. If you find yourself thinking or seeking philosophical ideas and ideals, then Jupiter is probably working its magic on you. This can be a challenging time if you lack self-control. But, if you are able to succeed in the area of self-control, then the full power and potential of what Jupiter has to offer is available to you.
From a pure everyday, living life standpoint, you may find the things you hold as your responsibilities, projects, commitments, and tasks requiring more effort. Without a concerted effort on your part, all external resources and energies will appear to evaporate and disappear. What you do for your internal, spiritual growth will expand; and, what you do for your external world will require extra attention and energy.
Saturn … March 25 – August 13, 2016
Saturn is the Lord of Time and Karma. Saturn is the planet of rules and regulations, making it possible for you to establish boundaries. If you disobey the rules, you create karma. However, when Saturn slows down and appears in retrograde, it throws the rules out the window. You may find yourself experiencing that rebel nature right now. This is a good time to reevaluate, renegotiate, rethink, reorganize and, perhaps, weed out those things in your life that cause you stress, conflict or frustration.
Mars … April 17 – June 29, 2016
Mars in retrograde is a whole different ‘animal’. The period before and after the actual retrograde period is often the most healing and successful time. During this period of retrograde you may find yourself feeling depleted; an indication you need to slow down a bit. If you try to rush projects, relationships, or basically your life, you may find yourself hitting the proverbial ‘brick wall’ or running in circles. This is the time to remain very focused on your positive goals. If you find your inner ‘knowing’ or intuition leading you astray or cranking up negative ideas and emotions, stop! Take a breath! Shake those ideas and emotions out of your head, and begin focusing and funneling all that energy back towards the positive goals you have established for yourself.
This is a time to think twice, or three times, before making any hasty remarks, decisions, or behaving impulsively. Everyone will be effected by these retrogrades, and tempers may flare when you least expect it (yours or someone else’s). It is best to keep yourself busy, not mindlessly, but with things that will keep you physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally engaged. If that seems like a difficult task, do what you need to do to avoid arguments and conflict during this time.
Pluto … April 18 – September 26, 2016
Pluto connects with your soul. During retrograde you may be confronted with a deep, heart-felt need and desire to find your own inner peace and truth. This is a time for profound introspection, along with sincere and dedicated spiritual work aimed at healing and evolving your Soul, the very precious essence of your Being. Allow yourself to cleanse away and rid yourself of those burdens, judgments and baggage that continue to hold you back, weigh you down, and prevent you from seeing and reaching your full potential of goodness and happiness.
Mercury … April 28 – May 22, 2016
Mercury rules the vast world of communications; including, but not limited to, all written materials, computer codes, listening, thinking, speaking, interpreting, negotiating, contracts and all other legal documents. And, in your world of communication, it is important to be certain of the words you speak or write at this time. Be certain they truly convey what is in your heart and mind, and that they are not the result of a quick emotional outburst, but instead are a well-thought out message of intent and information.
This is a good time to review what you already know and believe to be true about your reality; to make plans for any new endeavors you want to start or changes you want to implement. This is, however, NOT a good time to start any new projects or sign any contracts or agreements.
Mercury is also blamed for computer or electronic breakdowns, and delays in transportation or other scheduled travel events.
The New Moon sets before you 3-days of opportunity for you to initiate and commit to your internal and external worlds of existence; a commitment for growth, peace, contentment, happiness, and connection. It seems clear that this is not the time to focus on movement and growth in your external world, but to begin or continue to build pathways and bridges to the one who resides deep within you…your soul, your essence, your very Being.
April 7th is the New Moon. Spend time on each of the 3-days (April 6, 7 & 8) to recall memories from your childhood, when life was easier and freer. Remember who you were and what you liked and wanted before ideas of adulthood and all it held came into view and settled into your psyche. Find within you that child of innocence and try to see the world once again with those same eyes.
