October’s New Moon

What a wonderful time of the year! The leaves are changing and the air has a certain crispness to it. It is a great time to head out to your favorite local cider mill, down some freshly pressed cider, donuts, caramel or candied apples, and take a walk in nature.

The New Moon, with its still, dark nights, reminds us to take a little time and turn our attention inward. To find that quiet place within us where all our hopes and dreams reside. Just like the New Moon, give yourself permission to steady yourself in this space. As the still, darkness of the night begins to give way to the light of the coming day, allow your Spirit to grow in strength and direction, lifting you up and forward to start this lunar cycle anew.

You often hear it said, ‘the 3-days (or nights) of the New (or Full) Moon’. The first night finds us receding; seeking that quiet space within. The second night settles in to calm the senses, helping you to dive into the deep end of the pool, the pool of tranquility. By the third night you are filled with the joy and gratitude of all that you are and all that you have been given, and begin again to place before you your most cherished hopes and dreams.

So grab yourself a cup tea. Draw yourself a good hot tub of water. Add a few drops of oil, like lavender, chamomile, sandalwood or jasmine, along with a cup of your favorite bath salt. Taking your tea with you, step gently into your bath, settle back, and let your senses fill you up. Quiet your mind by savoring every sip of your tea. Allow yourself to sink deeply into your bath, letting go of all your everyday thoughts, worries and concerns … aaahhhhhhh.
