The Full Harvest Moon of September, 2015

I am so enamored by the weather we are having, the growing moon at night, and the freshness of the air as it cools in the evenings and warms up during the day. And, there is so much going on up there in our galaxy of stars, moon and sun! And on Sunday, September 27th, we get the full range of events happening above and around us.

First, this full moon, appearing at 10:51 p.m. EST on September 27th, is called the Harvest Moon. Each year the full moon occurring closest to the autumnal equinox is referred to as the Full Harvest Moon. Some of our Native American ancestors also referred to this moon in the same manner, while other familiar names include Fall Moon, Paper Moon, Drying Grass Moon, and Little Chestnut Moon. Additionally, this full moon will appear to have a shorter-than-usual time span between the rising moon for several nights in a row.

Secondly, this is a Supermoon! Supermoons may occur 4-6 times a year and may occur during a full or new moon. This month’s supermoon occurs when the moon is at or near its closest approach to Earth during its orbit. In fact, we will have another Supermoon in October.

And finally, we will witness a Blood Moon, featuring the fourth of four total lunar eclipses in the ongoing lunar tetrad. The lunar eclipse will begin around 10:11 p.m. EST, and reach a total eclipse at approximately 11:23 p.m. EST.

With all that going on around us, how can we not feel the effects of the Universe? You might find yourself feeling a bit emotional, and wondering why and where that is coming from. Or, you might find yourself feeling slightly giddy, wanting to share your joy and laughter with all those around you. On the other hand, you might find yourself daydreaming about escaping the everyday, mundane routine and doing something totally out of the ordinary and maybe out of character for the person you have come to portray. Things may appear to be a little off kilter, not quite right, or extraordinarily perfect!

Whatever it is you might be feeling, this is a time to fully reap what you have sown. You may be looking around you and rejoicing in your harvest; or, you may be looking around and feeling less than positive about your bounty. Your reaction to your harvest or bounty will clearly define the months that lay ahead of you. If your heart swells with gratitude for all you have been blessed with, including the trials and tribulations life can bring to you, then the seeds you sow from your heart will bring further blessings your way, now and into the future. If, however, you compare your harvest with that of your neighbors, feeling slightly ‘short changed’ or that you haven’t gotten or received enough, those seeds you sow from your heart will continue to produce less, dry up and be scattered in different directions by the winds. If spend your time worrying and fretting about the future, it will continue to be filled with worry and fret. But, if instead you spend your time looking positively to the future, knowing you will be taken care of and the worries of the past are left in the past, you will manifest a life filled with a bounty of success, happiness and health.
